University/College Police Section

The University & College Police Section represents the interests of sworn campus public safety within the IACP. The Section has hosted a slate of summits over the years and assisted in drafting federal legislation on a range of issues from homeland security to police protective equipment. Our members have testified before the US Congress and worked on a range of national issues most recently including the creation of a national center for campus policing. While there is significant overlap with local, county, state and federal policing, the unique needs of a university require a unique level of service, one that combines the culture of education with the tenets of crime prevention and public order. The Section represents this perspective to the larger law enforcement community.

Each year we hold an annual meeting during the IACP Conference and a mid-year meeting during the annual conference of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators.  The Section is represented on the IACP Legislative Committee, Homeland Security Committee, Civil Rights Committee and a host of others where our knowledge and expertise is of benefit.  The Section is led by a General Chair and General Vice Chair who work closely with Regional Vice Chairs and committees.  Standing committees of the Section include: Scholarship, Recruitment, Annual Meeting, and Special Projects. The Section supports a college scholarship fund for which we receive applications from around the world.

Why join? Membership gives you access to the collective experience of our Section, and we benefit from your insight and energy. We bring your talents, issues and ideas forward to the association leadership for the betterment of our profession. In return, you receive access to this collective knowledge generated by others like you. We are represented on the Executive Committee, the Legislative Committee and the Homeland Security Committee, to name a few. The Section hosts summits and training sessions relevant to the latest issues we are facing. Please join our efforts; we have much to gain and to give.
